Modern Maasai

Welcome to the official website of Modern Maasai. I am a Kenyan born in a multi-ethinicity family and currently living in Europe. Kenya being a country of different tribes, my great grandfather was a Maasai, the culture of my obsession. My grandfather was a Kikuyu and I was raised in Taita at my grandmother and my father’s tribe.

On the other hand, as my sister got married to a Luo guy and my brother to a Kisii lady. Thus, I have been in a multicultural sorrounding all my life. However, living in Europe, Switzerland and having a brother-in-law in Germany, has made me value my roots even more, as I have realised that most westerners aren’t well informed about African culture.

My website is therefore based on African culture where I specialise in providing tips through Blog and YouTube videos about my Maasai roots, especially based on my style, dreadlocks, African music and so on!

This website starts as a place to post short, personal photos and videos. Throughout the years, it should turn into its own form of art. Modern Maasai uses state-of-the-art technology to create, edit, and display pictures and video content, with great storytelling at the heart of all videos.

Take a look at the pictures and videos below, and browse through the new and exciting content. The contents are constantly being updated, so be sure to check back for more!

Modern Maasai is proud of the growing community of users who visit this site, offer their feedback and suggest future collaborations. If you’d like to join this community, or discuss working together - get in touch today

My Roots My Art!

Dreadlocks is the only pain-free hair style that allows a black woman to be natural. Locks are time-saving and allow black women to be stylish, wild, sexy and of course they are cheaper. I, for example, do my hair on my own and need only to buy material, which isn’t that expensive. Learning to do dreadlocks on your own is practical and time-saving! For this reason, I like being a rasta-girl! Here is a VIDEO on how to re-twist your hair!

Braids On Dreadlocks

How to style your dreadlocks once you are tired of them!

I like being natural, never had to wear a wig before. However, sometimes when I need something for a change I usually braid my dreadlocks with synthetic hair. Soon I will upload a video on how I do braid my hair on my own!
