African Music
Why do black women have a narrow waistline and broader hips? Where does the hourglass comes from?
There are several aspects influencing the body shape of an African women, however, African music and dancing style plays a major role. This can also be analyzed the different dancing styles of different tribes, where each tribe, especially in Kenya, has a different dancing style. Some jump, other dance with their hips, others with their waist like Swahili and Mijikenda people, and some dance by moving breasts and shoulders.
For example, I am Taita where we dance Mwazindika, which is danced by vigorously shaking and moving legs, hips and waist. I was a danced representing my primary school and among the best. I danced for our school for 4 years at the age between 10-14 years, which explain my figure. However, my family genes also plays a key role, as my mum and most of my sisters are this way. All in all, I had one of the thinnest waistline in my family (Ps. All my pictures are current, after having two kids).
This is also explainable, if you compare Taita people to Maasai or Luo people, who dance by jumping and therefore, their body shape, especially of Maasai women is mostly slander compare to Taita women.
But in general, if we look at Congolese who are specialized in Ndombolo, Lingala and Rumba which is also a combination of legs-waist-hips movement, we may get our answer. Look at Tanzanian and Zanzibar who are specialized in Taarab, which is also obvious if we look at women from Dancehall, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Kizomba, and Reggaeton dancing nations!
This page therefore provide videos with some of my African dancing moves and music!
